Hush AI vs ChatGPT, Copilot and Gemini
They are excellent products made by the best-funded AI companies on earth, and for many tasks they will be faster and smarter than us. This page is about the dimensions where we are structurally different: we don't save your data, we process it, then delete it, so there is nothing to leak or be compelled to hand over, and the machines that do the processing are owned by a UK company, beyond the reach of foreign courts. We also say plainly what each product does better than we do.

Competitor rows describe what each company keeps about you, based on public terms and filings as of June 2026. ChatGPT, Copilot and Gemini keep a copy of what you type by default, often to train the next model. "Configurable"/"Commercial terms" rows reflect that paid business tiers of these products offer training opt-outs, check the tier you are actually on. Spot an error in this table? ChatGPT (OpenAI)
What it does better than us: frontier model capability, the largest plugin and app ecosystem, voice mode, and a free tier. If raw capability on non-confidential work is the only criterion, buy ChatGPT.
The structural difference: OpenAI is a US company; whatever tier you pay for and wherever your data is stored, it remains within reach of US legal process under the CLOUD Act. For a UK professional handling patient, client or employee data, that fact belongs in your DPIA, and "we selected the UK data residency option" does not remove it.
Microsoft Copilot
What it does better than us: deep integration with Word, Outlook, Excel and Teams, AI inside the documents you already have open. If your organisation lives in Microsoft 365 and your IG lead has signed off the jurisdiction question, Copilot is the convenient choice.
The structural difference: in June 2025, Microsoft France's director of public and legal affairs told a French Senate inquiry, under oath, that he could not guarantee European data would never be handed to US authorities without European consent, while noting it had never happened. We wrote about exactly what that testimony does and does not mean. It is the clearest public statement that residency commitments do not move jurisdiction.
Google Gemini
What it does better than us: integration with Google Workspace, very long context windows, and strong multimodal features. Same logic as Copilot: if you live in Workspace and the jurisdiction question is answered in your paperwork, it is a capable product.
The structural difference: Google is a US company; Gemini runs on Google-owned infrastructure. The CLOUD Act analysis is identical to the other two, the postcode of the data centre is not the variable that matters.

Hush is a small UK company. Our models run on privately owned NVIDIA hardware, which is precisely why we can make the jurisdiction claims above, and also why we cap free pilots at five at a time. We have no Word plug-in, no voice assistant in your earbuds, and no free tier. Conversation history is stored encrypted on your own device until you delete it, we do not pretend otherwise, and it is never used for training. If the comparison above matters to your organisation, that trade is the entire product.

Frequently asked questions
What is the main difference between Hush AI and ChatGPT, Copilot or Gemini?
What they keep. ChatGPT (OpenAI), Microsoft Copilot and Google Gemini keep a copy of what you type, often to train the next model, on cloud infrastructure you never see. Hush keeps nothing: it runs its own models on privately owned hardware, not Big Tech, and never trains on what you type.
Is there a private alternative to ChatGPT?
Yes. Hush is a private alternative that runs on privately owned hardware, not Big Tech, never uses your content for training, and keeps nothing of yours. Your chat history lives only on your own device, and you can wipe it in one click.
Is Hush AI more capable than ChatGPT?
No, for raw general-purpose capability, ChatGPT and the other frontier US models are stronger, and we say so. Hush's advantage is structural: it keeps nothing, runs on privately owned hardware, not Big Tech, and never trains on your data. Choose Hush when it is private; choose a frontier model when it is not.
Does Hush AI use my data to train its models?
No. We don't save your data, we process it, then delete it, and never train on it. Documents and API requests are never stored; the web-chat history you choose to keep is encrypted on your own device and deleted the moment you delete it.
